Broken Social Scene's "Almost Crimes" creates collective resistance through layers of overlapping sound rather than direct statement. Tennyson's genre-defying "Lay-By" floats between electronic and jazz without committing to either. Richard Swift's "Broken Finger Blues", recorded by a lo-fi producer who died too young, is raw emotional honesty with the fidelity to match.
